Remembering Death
Tirmidhi 2307
أَكْثِرُوا ذِكْرَ هَاذِمِ اللَّذَّاتِ الْمَوْتَ
Akthiru dhikra hadhimil-ladhdhati'l-mawt
English Translation
Remember often the destroyer of pleasures: death.
The Great Reminder
The Prophet ﷺ encouraged frequent remembrance of death as it humbles the soul, increases taqwa, and helps prioritize the afterlife over worldly pleasures. This remembrance purifies the heart and motivates righteous deeds.
Hindi Translation
लज़्ज़तों को बर्बाद करने वाली चीज़ यानी मौत को ज़्यादा याद करो।
Urdu Translation
لذتوں کو برباد کرنے والی چیز یعنی موت کو زیادہ یاد کرو۔
For a Good End (Husn al-Khatimah)
Ahmad 17423
اللَّهُمَّ أَحْسِنْ عَاقِبَتَنَا فِي الْأُمُورِ كُلِّهَا وَأَجِرْنَا مِنْ خِزْيِ الدُّنْيَا وَعَذَابِ الْآخِرَةِ
Allahumma ahsin 'aqibatana fil-umuri kulliha wa ajirna min khizyi'd-dunya wa 'adhabil-akhira
English Translation
O Allah, make our end good in all matters, and save us from the disgrace of this world and the punishment of the hereafter.
Seeking a Righteous End
This comprehensive dua asks Allah for husn al-khatimah (a good end) in all aspects of life. It seeks protection from disgrace in this world and punishment in the next, emphasizing the importance of how our life concludes.
Hindi Translation
हे अल्लाह, हमारे तमाम मामलों का अंजाम अच्छा कर और हमें दुनिया की रुसवाई और आख़िरत के अज़ाब से बचा।
Urdu Translation
اے اللہ، ہمارے تمام معاملات کا انجام اچھا کر اور ہمیں دنیا کی رسوائی اور آخرت کے عذاب سے بچا۔
For the Dying Person
Sahih Muslim 916
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ
La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu akbar, la ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah
English Translation
There is no god but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, there is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner.
The Final Declaration
This is the recommended dhikr for someone who is dying. The Prophet ﷺ said whoever's last words are "La ilaha illa Allah" will enter Paradise. It's a declaration of pure monotheism at the most crucial moment.
Hindi Translation
अल्लाह के सिवा कोई माबूद नहीं, अल्लाह सबसे बड़ा है, अल्लाह के सिवा कोई माबूद नहीं, वह अकेला है, उसका कोई शरीक नहीं।
Urdu Translation
اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، اللہ سب سے بڑا ہے، اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، وہ اکیلا ہے، اس کا کوئی شریک نہیں۔
For the Bereaved (Patience)
Sahih Bukhari 1284
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأَخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Allahumma ajurni fi musibati wa akhlif li khayran minha
English Translation
Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return. O Allah, reward me for my affliction and replace it with something better.
Finding Comfort in Loss
This dua combines the Quranic verse of acceptance with a supplication for reward and replacement. It helps the bereaved find comfort by acknowledging Allah's ownership of all souls and seeking spiritual reward for patience in grief.
Hindi Translation
बेशक हम अल्लाह के हैं और उसी की तरफ़ लौटने वाले हैं। हे अल्लाह, मेरी मुसीबत में मुझे अज्र दे और इसके बदले मुझे कुछ बेहतर दे।
Urdu Translation
بے شک ہم اللہ کے ہیں اور اسی کی طرف لوٹنے والے ہیں۔ اے اللہ، میری مصیبت میں مجھے اجر دے اور اس کے بدلے مجھے کچھ بہتر دے۔
For Forgiveness of the Deceased
Sahih Muslim 963
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ
Allahumma aghfir lahu warhamhu wa 'afihi wa'fu 'anhu wa akrim nuzulahu wa wassi' mudkhalah
English Translation
O Allah, forgive him, have mercy on him, give him strength, and pardon him. Be generous to him, widen his entrance, and wash him with water, snow, and hail.
Comprehensive Prayer for the Dead
This is part of the funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah) taught by the Prophet ﷺ. It asks for Allah's forgiveness, mercy, strength, pardon, honor, and a wide entrance to Paradise for the deceased soul.
Hindi Translation
हे अल्लाह, इसे माफ़ कर दे, इस पर रहम कर, इसे आफ़ियत दे, इसे मुआफ़ कर दे, इसके ठहरने की जगह को इज़्ज़त वाली बना और इसके दाख़िले को वसीअ कर दे।
Urdu Translation
اے اللہ، اسے معاف کر دے، اس پر رحم کر، اسے عافیت دے، اسے معاف کر دے، اس کے ٹھہرنے کی جگہ کو عزت والی بنا اور اس کے داخلے کو وسیع کر دے۔
At the Grave
Abu Dawud 3221
السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ دَارَ قَوْمٍ مُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ بِكُمْ لَاحِقُونَ
As-salamu 'alaykum dara qawmin mu'minin wa inna in sha Allah bikum lahiqun
English Translation
Peace be upon you, O dwelling place of believing people, and indeed we, if Allah wills, will be joining you.
Greeting the Deceased
This is the greeting taught by the Prophet ﷺ when visiting graves. It acknowledges the deceased as believers, offers them peace, and reminds the living of their own mortality and eventual meeting with Allah.
Hindi Translation
तुम पर सलाम हो, ऐ मोमिन क़ौम के घर वालो, और बेशक हम भी इंशाअल्लाह तुमसे मिलने वाले हैं।
Urdu Translation
تم پر سلام ہو، اے مومن قوم کے گھر والو، اور بے شک ہم بھی ان شاء اللہ تم سے ملنے والے ہیں۔
Protection from Grave's Punishment
Sahih Bukhari 1377
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَمِنْ عَذَابِ النَّارِ وَمِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabil-qabri wa min 'adhabin-nar wa min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat
English Translation
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, from the punishment of the Fire, and from the trials of life and death.
Comprehensive Protection
This powerful dua seeks Allah's protection from four major trials: the punishment of the grave, the punishment of Hell, and the trials that come during life and at the time of death. The Prophet ﷺ regularly sought this protection.
Hindi Translation
हे अल्लाह, मैं तुझसे क़ब्र के अज़ाब से, आग के अज़ाब से, और ज़िंदगी और मौत के फ़ितनों से पनाह मांगता हूं।
Urdu Translation
اے اللہ، میں تجھ سے قبر کے عذاب سے، آگ کے عذاب سے، اور زندگی اور موت کے فتنوں سے پناہ مانگتا ہوں۔
