After Waking from a Nightmare
Sahih Muslim 2261
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
A'udhu billahi min ash-shaytani'r-rajim
English Translation
I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed.
Immediate Protection
The Prophet ﷺ taught that when someone has a bad dream, they should: 1) Spit lightly to the left three times, 2) Seek refuge in Allah from Satan, 3) Change the side they were sleeping on, 4) Not tell anyone about the dream. This dua provides immediate spiritual protection.
Hindi Translation
मैं अल्लाह की पनाह मांगता हूं शैतान-ए-रजीम से।
Urdu Translation
میں اللہ کی پناہ مانگتا ہوں شیطان رجیم سے۔
Before Sleep for Protection
Sahih Bukhari 6320
بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya
English Translation
In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.
Surrendering to Allah
This beautiful bedtime dua acknowledges that sleep is like a temporary death and waking is like resurrection. By invoking Allah's name before sleep, we place ourselves under His protection throughout the night, seeking refuge from nightmares and evil influences.

हे अल्लाह, तेरे नाम से मैं मरता हूं और जीता हूं।

اے اللہ، تیرے نام سے میں مرتا ہوں اور جیتا ہوں۔
Seeking Refuge from Shaytan
Abu Dawud 5067
أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
A'udhu bi kalimatillahi't-tammati min sharri ma khalaq
English Translation
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
Complete Protection
This comprehensive dua seeks Allah's protection through His perfect words from all forms of evil, including the whispers of Satan that cause nightmares. The Prophet ﷺ said whoever recites this three times in the evening will be protected from harmful things.
Hindi Translation
मैं अल्लाह के कामिल कलिमात की पनाह मांगता हूं हर उस चीज़ के शर से जो उसने पैदा की है।
Urdu Translation
میں اللہ کے کامل کلمات کی پناہ مانگتا ہوں ہر اس چیز کے شر سے جو اس نے پیدا کی ہے۔
Ayat al-Kursi for Protection
Quran 2:255
اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ
Allahu la ilaha illa huwal-hayyul-qayyum, la ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm
English Translation
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep.
The Greatest Verse
Ayat al-Kursi is the greatest verse in the Quran. The Prophet ﷺ said whoever recites it before sleep will have a guardian from Allah with them all night, and Satan will not approach them until morning. It's the most powerful protection against nightmares and evil.
Hindi Translation
अल्लाह, उसके सिवा कोई माबूद नहीं, वह ज़िंदा है, क़ायम रहने वाला है, उसे न ऊंघ आती है न नींद।
Urdu Translation
اللہ، اس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، وہ زندہ ہے، قائم رہنے والا ہے، اسے نہ اونگھ آتی ہے نہ نیند۔
For Children Who Have Nightmares
Abu Dawud 3893
أُعِيذُكَ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ
U'idhuka bi kalimatillahi't-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammatin wa min kulli 'aynin lamma
English Translation
I seek protection for you in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and poisonous creature, and from every evil eye.
Parental Protection
This is the dua the Prophet ﷺ used to seek protection for his grandsons Hassan and Hussein. Parents can recite this over their children who suffer from nightmares, placing their hand on the child's head or chest while making this supplication for comprehensive protection.
Hindi Translation
मैं तुझे अल्लाह के कामिल कलिमात की पनाह दिलाता हूं हर शैतान और ज़हरीले जानवर से, और हर बुरी नज़र से।
Urdu Translation
میں تجھے اللہ کے کامل کلمات کی پناہ دلاتا ہوں ہر شیطان اور زہریلے جانور سے، اور ہر بری نظر سے۔
Sunnah Steps After Bad Dreams
Sahih Muslim 2261
اللَّهُمَّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ وَسَيِّئَاتِ الْأَحْلَامِ
Allahumma a'udhu bika min 'amalish-shaytani wa sayyi'atil-ahlam
English Translation
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the work of Satan and from evil dreams.
Complete Sunnah Method
The Prophet ﷺ taught a complete method: 1) Spit lightly to your left three times (without saliva), 2) Say "A'udhu billahi min ash-shaytani'r-rajim", 3) Turn to the other side, 4) Get up and pray if needed, 5) Don't tell anyone about the dream. This breaks Satan's influence completely.

हे अल्लाह, मैं तुझसे शैतान के काम से और बुरे ख़्वाबों से पनाह मांगता हूं।
Urdu Translation
اے اللہ، میں تجھ سے شیطان کے کام سے اور برے خوابوں سے پناہ مانگتا ہوں۔
For Peace of Mind & Restful Sleep
Tirmidhi 3528
اللَّهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إِلَيْكَ وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْكَ وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْكَ
Allahumma aslamtu nafsi ilayka wa fawwadtu amri ilayka wa alja'tu zahri ilayk
English Translation
O Allah, I have surrendered my soul to You, entrusted my affairs to You, and sought refuge in You.
Complete Surrender
This powerful bedtime dua represents complete trust and surrender to Allah. When we entrust our sleep, dreams, and protection entirely to Allah, our minds find peace. The Prophet ﷺ said whoever sleeps with this dua will be under Allah's protection all night.
Hindi Translation
हे अल्लाह, मैंने अपनी जान तुझे सौंप दी, अपना मामला तुझे सौंप दिया, और अपनी पीठ तेरी तरफ़ लगा दी।
Urdu Translation
اے اللہ، میں نے اپنی جان تجھے سونپ دی، اپنا معاملہ تجھے سونپ دیا، اور اپنی پیٹھ تیری طرف لگا دی۔
